Got a question? We’re here to help.

  • Who can begin the process to have a foster youth considered for free braces?

The process for referring a child for free braces may be initiated by only two persons, either a case manager for the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) or a volunteer with Louisiana Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).

  • How does my DCFS case manager or CASA volunteer begin the process?

To begin the process for consideration for free braces, the foster youth's DCFS case manager or CASA must complete the online referral form.

  • What happens if my DCFS case manager or CASA cannot access the online referral form?

As of February 2024, there are 13 foster youth in the Lafayette, Alexandria, Monroe, and Baton Rouge Regions awaiting orthodontic treatment.

Once funding has been secured for those 13 children, the online referral process will resume.

  • Does the foster youth need to be evaluated by an orthodontist before being referred?

No, it is not necessary to have an orthodontic evaluation at any time during the eligibility determination.

  • What type of payment methods do you accept?

Checks may be made payable to:

    Fostering Hope Louisiana

    PO Box 2126

    Prairieville, LA 70769

    Or pay online here.

  • Who is eligible for free braces?

Children ages 10-17 currently in foster care in Louisiana are eligible for consideration for free braces.

Please note that other criteria, such as stability in one's placement, are considered before a foster youth will be deemed eligible for free braces.
